Cars in the Park – Johannesburg

Having been to the “Cars in the Park” Pietermaritzburg we decided to go to Johannesburg’s “Car in the Park” which was being held at Zwartkops Race Track. After convincing Peanuts we seriously needed to go on a road trip cause it’s so much fun and I knew I just could not step inside an aeroplane so soon, we left on the Thursday afternoon the 30 July for the Transvaal. On the Saturday we went to Kyalami Race track to watch a bit of racing and also to say hallo to Neil & Rosemary Lobb who owns a few Darts and a Flamingo and are members of our club. Sunday we headed for Zwartkops Race Track. We were fortunate enough to put our table in one of the garages in the pit section where Wayne Harley, the curator of the Fransschoek Motor Museum, advertised the museum. Here we could sell our GSM books. The garage was also shared by the Dallara formula 1 of 1990 and owned by Andre Bezuidenhout. This is also the only car that lapped Zwartkops under 1 minute. Another car sharing the garage with us was a truly beautiful Chev Belair 1956 which I could have sold a hundred times because of so many interested buyers. There were about three thousand cars at the show. Some really good looking cars and some not. The show is open to 30 years and older cars. Once again the show had more customized cars than original cars. We want to do the same thing in Cape Town. Maybe we can call it “Cars in the Cape” and bring out the best in the Cape.
