NEWSFLASH - HELDERBERG WINERY

15 April 2010

On the 28th of March the GSM Car club went on a breakfast run to the Helderberg Winery. Willie Meissner organized the event. Some of us met at the Engen garage on the N1 and those coming from Somerset West met at SotheyVines. We had to meet at 8:15 at the garage (sorry John Amm). Willie emailed us a detailed map which I sent to all our members so that we would not get lost on the way. The idea for the day was that after having breakfast at Helderberg Winery we could then go and look at some muscle and sports cars owned by Marc Schoeman at his museum in Somerset West. Some of us arrived with no trouble at all to the venue and some of us drove straight past (no names mentioned). I don’t want to make any excuses but I have yet to see the name board saying “Helderberg Winery”. Forty four people arrived for breakfast with a number of GSM cars. One or two new people joined us for breakfast as well as John Engelbrecht, who we have not seen for a while. Welcome back John! Sorry Pat could not make it. After having a tremendous breakfast we set off to visit Marc. We left the restaurant in a convoy to make sure that no one got lost. Believe me, if we did not stick together this would have happened for sure. It was quite a winding road up the mountain to reach Marc’s Museum, but worth it, quite a collection. A very interesting variety of cars from Volvo, Porsche and Mustangs to a classic collection of motorbikes, which Peanuts believes are of a greater value than the cars. After walking through all the different cars, Peanuts thanked Marc for his hospitality and for allowing the GSM Car Club the opportunity to view his collection. Peanuts handed Marc two of our beautiful GSM mugs as a thank you together with a bottle or our Golden Jubilee wine. Mark then offered us some refreshments. Thank you Mark and thank you Willie for organizing us such an enjoyable morning.
