GSM CAR CLUB OF SOUTH AFRICA

28 July 2004
Newsletter No: 18

What’s happening? Another Newsletter! Well, just before you get the idea that I am getting too serious about newsletters, July has come and gone, and things are hotting-up towards the end of 2004.

With the A.A. Inventions Expo at Canal Walk, from 14th August right up to 31st December, we are going to be rather busy. We thought of having a Dart, a Flamingo and a partially completed chassis on display. Our scrapbooks (which belong to Peanuts) are being duplicated and will be part of the stand, together with our banner and possibly an engine stand, simulating a workshop or a pit scene at a race. The stand will not be manned continuously, but at “peak times” they will appreciate someone on site to talk to people. Any ideas will be welcome, also volunteers to man the show. Please support us, even if you just rock-up to have a look.

Over and above that, we are involved with;

8th August 2004. A country run to Riebeek Kasteel. Our social committee has arranged a lunch at the local Pleasant Pheasant Restaurant. We will depart from the home of Peanuts, (21 Louw Street Brackenfell) and cruise to Riebeek Kasteel. All tar roads, no gravel involved. Please support us! If your GSM is not running, borrow the neighbors Benz.

5th September. A bash! Bring and braai, with salads and breads provided, at Bob’s home in Hout Bay. His 76 Birthday. The club is providing a marquee (in case it rains) with fifty chairs and enough tables, also coals, and Willie Visagie will have his new GSM apron, just to prove that he is the official GSM braaier. Your own drinks, glasses and cutlery please. Let’s see if we can seats on all those chairs!

25th September 2004. Whales and Wheels. The annual Hermanus, run where we have lead the procession for two years. A very pleasant outing. Last year we had eight cars on our stand. Let’s try and beat that. May not be possible with two at Canal Walk, but who knows?

29th & 30th October Panorama “Wiele Skou.” Once again in the capable hand of Hein van der Watt. Please support him as well.

27th November 2004. We are negotiating with the Multi-Car Club to use their hall as a venue for our Christmas Party. Unfortunately that evening, and all other Friday and Saturday nights around there have been booked. Keep on trying is our motto, but if we don’t succeed, it is probably not a train smash as we only had about 20 people at last years party……!
Maybe someone will offer us there home for a party.

We shall keep you informed.

Kind regards.
Piet van Niekerk
