GSM CAR CLUB OF SOUTH AFRICA
11 November 2004
Newsletter No: 19
As we approach the festive season once again, one
finds that while the Festive lights appear, one tends to slowly
start winding down. The frenzy of exams is over, or almost……, the
holidays come to the fore in ones mind, planning becomes more of a
reality………. The dream is over, bookings have to be confirmed,
deposits have to be paid, accommodation for the dog, cat, budgie
etc. have to be arranged, the car has to be serviced, etc etc, Wow!!
Is it really worth it? The answer is…., YES OF COURSE!!!!! We all
need a rest………., young and old, and our batteries need to be
recharged! This is also true for members of the GSM Club!
A bumper Christmas party has been arranged! December 3rd at 7.30 for
8.00. The Club has obtained the use of the BMW Boma at Killarney.
(This building is in the vicinity of Malmesbury bend, two buildings
to the west of The Olde Coppe Shoppe. It offers tremendous
accommodation in the form of toilets, a kitchen, bad weather
protection and all mod-cons)
At the very modest price of R50.00 per couple, or R25.00 per person,
a fantastic menu has been chosen, requiring only your own liquid
refreshments to be brought along. Please will you cal Rose at 021
9032852 for bookings and settlement as we need to advise the
caterers of numbers attending. On the negative side, may I PLEASE
ask for maximum support! Last year a lot of effort was made. Please
people, this is a Friday night, and your presence will be greatly
appreciated. Any suggestions as to a disco or music will be welcome!
Congratulations to Hein van der Watt for organizing the best
Wieleskou we have been involved in. Thanks also all the members that
attended, especially those who brought cars to exhibit, and those
who felt their cars were not yet ready for a show, but attended in
person. The GSM Club, was supported by the Mazda Rotary Club and the
Kart Racing section from Killarney, aswell as the Midget section
from Worcester Motor Club. We had two Flamingos, Hein and Zim
Geldenhuys, five Darts, Peanuts, Sidney Ehrenreich, Gert le Roux,
Clarry Taylor and John Engelbrecht. The quality of the GSM cars
since our first appearance four years ago has improved by probably
100%. Thanks everybody and congratulations.
The Mazda rotaries were a R100, R130, RX2, RX8 and a 323 fitted with
a 13b engine supplied by Hennie Maartens.
The Karting section had a Max-challenge and a RM1 on display,
together with the “transporter trailer” of Fouche Engineering and
its new tow truck. The Max challenge is the one campaigned very
successfully by 17 year old Trish Fouche this year.
The Midget of Carlo Prins is probably the cleanest and neatest
example in the country, also with its “transporter trailer” and tow
truck. Carlo left the show at about 16.00hrs and drove to Worcester
where he took part in four events, winning them all and setting up
fastest lap of the evening! How’s that! Congratulations I am sure
are in order!
Thanks again to all that attended on a very hot day! When 16.00hrs
comes around and you have been there since 07.00, you can be excused
for being plain “gatvol” Thanks also to the members that attended
the Kroonendal Cars in the Bay at Hout Bay. This to my mind is a
very important event as it is in Uncle Bob’s back yard.
In closing, from Peanuts, Rose, Esta, Uncle Bob and family and
myself compliments of the season to all of you! Thanks for your
input during 2004! Enjoy your holiday season and lets look forward
to 2005 and a bumper year for the GSM Club!!!!!!
Kind regards,
