GSM CAR CLUB OF SOUTH AFRICA

Newsletter No 26

With our Xmas-party only a few days away, this will be the last social event for 2006, and also the last newsletter for this year. It has been a busy year! Without any shadow of doubt, 2007 is going to be an even busier year. The Golden Jubileum is only ten months away…. And we are not as close to final plans as we would like to be! Plenty midnight oil is still to be burned at the inevitable last minute!

The year is drawing to a close, our chairman is going to treat his family to a “white Christmas” in Canada! He will also be visiting the UK. I am green with envy! Not only has he an appointment to visit and “take tea” with Sir Stirling Moss, but I am sure he will visit a few museums and hopefully can take in a few club race meetings as well! I am sure he will make a few valuable contacts for future reference too. And then it will be 2007!

I am sure you have all heard the phrase “The holiday is over!”

Well, that’s just what it will be. Nose hard to the grind stone, and on to the Golden Jubileum!!!!

May I just mention at this stage that I sincerely think that both Peanuts and Rose deserve the break! I am at the “coal face” and know better than anyone else what they do, and thus mean to our little Club. Go and enjoy! Please take lots of photos and we look forward to the first social in 2007 where we will be told all, or almost all!

Our last weekend saw Clarry Taylor again organized a bumper breakfast run to the Houw Hoek Farm Stall. Two Flamingos and five Darts accompanied by a few Mazda’s (Rotary) and a BMW carried twenty of our members to a really super breakfast! We started off at Zim and Martie Geldenhuys’s home in Kuils River at 08.00 on Sunday morning with muffins and coffee or fruit juice. Then a drive to Fairlands Service station just below Sir Lowry’s Pass where we met Clarry and Madge, Vic and Hilda Levin and Willie and Tina Meissner.

Apart from an untimely shower or two, fortunately while we were indoors, the weather was perfect. Real sports car weather.

Some of our regulars could not attend due to earlier commitments or being out of contact range. We apologise. There will be more runs, Clarry has promised, and he finds real good venues.

The Borgward Club has invited us to visit with them at an early meeting next year. They are keen to find out more about our Club and cars. The venue will be the Multicar Club Hall in Parow, and I thought we could put a Dart and a Flamingo in the hall for a talk and demo. We have accepted on your behalf and will let you know the date in good time.

At present it seems that the Panorama Wiele Skou is not attracting the crowds or the support of exhibitors, and it is possible that we support Whales and Wheels making an away week-end at Hermanus. Lets take all the Multicar Club with all its members and cars, about 300, to that venue next year. Let us hear your views. The year after we can support George, and then possibly back to Panorama which may change to Killarney anyway.

BP has amalgamated with or taken over Castrol, and they would gladly arrange another talk on their fuels and oils. The venue will again be Multicar Club Hall, Parow. The date will be communicated to you later.

Our Xmas-Party will be on the 24th, again at the Multicar Club Hall, R 50.00 per person, bring your own liquid refreshments, and food will be served hot! We have about 64 bookings, lets see if we can get to the magic 80! Please hurry! Phone Rose 021 930 2852! That’s it!

Compliments of the season to you and your loved ones!

In closing, a TREMENDOUS THANK YOU, to each and every member of this little club, and your partners, spouses or children that assisted during the year to make it the success it proved to be. We are solvent, and chomping at the bit to make the GOLDEN JUBILEUM a huge success. We are going to need you all! The local GSM enthusiasts as well as absolutely everybody all over the country! We cannot do it without you…..whoever you may be! We need YOU!

Kind regards and a happy new year!
