End-of-Year Message to the
GSM Club Management December 2002 As the end of 2002 draws nigh, it is perhaps the right time for the members of the GSM club to give due recognition to the committee which steered the club around a difficult course during the year. During the end-of-year function at the chairman’s home, the committee saw it fit to give recognition to some members for their contribution during the year, but perhaps the biggest award should go to the committee who nursed the club to the 2002 finish line, having endured manifold trials and tribulations. Whilst it is the marque which the club strives to promote, it should be said that a club like this consists of members, not cars, and it is this unique breed of diverse individuals which make the club what it is. In this modern hi-tech world, every classic car owner represents a winner in society, since owning and driving a classic car demonstrates depth of character way beyond the norm. Owning a GSM however goes that extra mile and demonstrates patriotic support of a country, which so many are leaving for good. To Peanuts who through personal adversity has negotiated the club through a winding course this year, we owe a big word of thanks. As a parent and husband of note, he has faced the thankless task of promoting the marque with tenacity and patience. How frustrating it must be to try and get as many cars as possible on the road for outings, is beyond comprehension. Peanuts, on behalf of all the club members, thank you for your commitment and patience, and may 2003 see you arriving at outings with a family member in each of your GSM cars! To Rose we owe a big thank you for putting up with Peanuts, for providing the back-office support for the club and for your enthusiastic support at all the outings. Thank you too for bringing two children up in the marque – they are a tribute to your parenting and an integral part of the club. Given the peer pressures the youth is facing, their presence at club outings represents tangible proof of a balanced family. To Piet – the quiet giant who says little but does so much, we also owe a word of thanks for your tireless work in promoting the club and backing Peanuts up with respect to club management. It is so important for the GSM club to always have someone serving on it’s management team who actively campaigned GSMs on the race track during those halcyon days in the late 50’s and 60’s, and you have done so with dignity and passion. To all those who in the background have supported the committee in so many ways, we as club members would like to thank you as well. Managing a club is often a thankless task and can be quite exhausting due to the normal pressures of daily life. The committee has done a sterling job this year, and deserves due credit for their dedication. As the members of the club, we would like to register our gratitude and wish you, the committee, a blessed Christmas. May the New Year see you back in the GSM pits with renewed vigor, and may 2003 see many more cars in the running! |
