HISTORY:

In October 1957 the first prototype (red) was ready to roll and after a lot of sorting out was able to race on 1 January 1958 at Gunners Circle with the sister car #5702 (black).

Lee Abrahamson, ex Cape Town, who now lives and runs a racing team in Canada also emigrated, taking with him the Dart that Tony Kotze raced in Luanda.  That car is 5701.  When the GSM factory started to produce cars regularly, 5701 was no longer needed and it was sold to Piet van Niekerk.  It was powered by the 1172CC Ford 100E engine, fitted with the Willment OHIV conversion.  This motor was replaced with a Alfa engine and gearbox, and 15" Alfa wheels and Alfa finned drum brakes up front.

This car can be identified by an almost "Nike shaped vent" on either side on the front fenders, just ahead of the door, with a chrome surround and extruded metal "grille" covering the gap.

Finding that car, and it's history will be very interesting.  That car should come back to South Africa and have a place of honor in a S.A. Museum!
