HISTORY:
Originally Dark Blue with light blue trim and registration # CA845. Clarry Taylor remembers that Denis Joubert bought the car new, early in 1964, as a birthday gift for his wife Alda. Soon the car was modified to a racing car, and it was raced by Denis and Clarry successfully for three years, In 1968 Denis sold the Dart to Dave Coleman who raced it for a while after changing the colour to Red with white willment racing stripes. Dave who owned a few Darts, then sold it to Charles Day, who raced it as No 17, in the Group 5 Series at Killarney. Charles crashed the car in a local race, damaging it so badly that he never raced it again! Towards the end of 1969 Rob Gay bought what was left of the car., for R250.00, no engine, gearbox, wheels and tyres or brakes. It however retained the large specially made 18 gallon racing fuel tank for long distance races, with a large “quick release” filler cap in the middle of the boot lid. Rob rebuilt it and raced it in the 70’s. Fiberglass body repairs, to 6404, plus the following should help to positively identify the car:
1. Obvious
mounting places for the roll bar behind the seats.
2. Spotlight mounting holes, used in endurance races.
3. Oil cooler mounting holes.
Presently this
car is used occasionally for Motor Shows, and Classic Car
Outings. It is registered as CA49187 and is still Red.
