KNOWN HISTORY :
The first known owner, John Wilson,
bought the car from Willie Meissner. It is not known if the
Dart was new or second hand. The Dart spent the rest of its
life in the East London area.
Second owner was Bertie Louw.
Third owner was Bertie Du Preez.
Fourth owner was Robin Bircholtz.
Firth owner was Des Pretorius.
In 1991 Johan Barnard bought the car from Des. The
registration no: CE 35174. In 1994 Johan stripped the Dart
completely to restore. As he had removed the paint he found
Bertie Louw’s name on the front fenders. Johan raced the car
for three years with a 1640 Kent motor with a five speed
gearbox. In 2008 he fitted the original 1500 GT motor in the
Dart again. He does not race the car anymore. This Dart also
won second prize at the Golden Jubilee in 2007 for the best
modified Dart.
On a bright and lovely Sunday it was with pleasure that we photographed this GSM Dart of Johan Barnard going around the track and putting the car through it's paces in the 6 Events of the Gymkhana held at Scribante Race Track in Port Elizabeth.
