HISTORY:
In 1980 Jan Thiard from Vredenburg swopped a short wb Landy for this light blue Flamingo with Danntjie Lourens who worked for C.B.S. in Epping. At the time it was Jan's only transport. Jan then moved to Swellendam with his wife, 3 kids and the Flamingo. Apparently Danntjie had the car for a very long time, could have even been from new. Jan fitted a new interior hood lining, stitched in a diamond pattern and years later sold it to someone in Goodwood around 1980/81. After this car found its way to the Eastern Cape. The car was later owned by Clive Nel who lived in Queenstown who then sold it to Malcolm Serrouw of Uitenhage. Malcolm had the car for about ± 10 years. Around 1991/92 Arno van der Westhuizen bought the car without an engine from Malcolm and store it in a warehouse for many years. Arno is presently restoring the car, and will be ready for the 2007 Jubilee.
TECHNICAL
The Flamingo has 5 stud wheels. Jan got the car with a concoction of 1500 and 1600 [arts that left it with no combustion chamber. With the car, in the "boot" can a set of 1/1/4 SU carbs and a manifold to fit the 1500 pre cross flow engine as well as a branch manifold. The whole kit was bought from Jan in June 2007 for the same amount that he sold the car for in 1980 (R750.00). Legend has it that one or two Flamingos were fitted with SU carbs in the factory.
