HISTORY:
Louis Botha who lived in Bloemfontein, bought the dark blue Flamingo in from someone in Johannesburg in 1984. At that stage the car was used for rallying, and had a “hatch back” modified rear end with a “whale type” grille. Under the guidance of, or with assistance from Con Joubert the body was meticulously restored to its original design, and sprayed red. A 1500cc Ford Cortina, Meissner cam and Weber carb motor was fitted. Unfortunately Louis Botha died with the project around 85% complete, and the car was left to his son. (Many interesting photos.)
In 2001 Louis Buys from Robertson, bought the
car from Botha Jnr, who once again sold it to Colin Smit in
September 2004. Another colour change to the new MG yellow and
the car is now being completed by Fouche Engineering in Parow,
Cape Town, around 90% complete.
