HISTORY:
This beautiful gold Flamingo was bought, brand new, by farmer Chris Viljoen in the early 60's. The car was light blue, with the normal black and red trim. His son Deon, informs us that his father changed the colour to gold, fitted a very smart set of spoke wheels and replaced the Ford Cortina motor with a Triumph TR3A engine and gearbox. It appears to have been used often, and should have been blisteringly fast. Deon recalls that the car somehow broke down after a hard life, and spent a considerable time just standing around on the family farm, in a rather sorry state. Deon recently started restoring the Flamingo to its original condition. The Triumph engine was rebuilt, new spike wheels were obtained, the upholstery was redone in cream leather and the gold colour has been retained. Although he has not completed the rebuild, the car looks tremendous, judging by the photos. The remaining work should be of an equally high standard, resulting in a very beautiful and desirable concourse car for the Jubileum.
