HISTORY:
This is the 4th Levy Dart built. The first owner (unknown) bought the Dart at Fish Hoek Auto Centa with registration no CA 404041 in September 1982. The car was sold in Johannesburg to the second owner, Mr. Stan Vos from Mbabane in Swaziland in 1985. The third owner was Mr. Bryan Dawson from Jefferies Bay who bought it in 1989. The fourth owner was Mr. Waverly De Beer from Jefferies Bay who bought it in 2002. He sold it to present owner Mr. John Damant in 2006 of Cape Town.
Technical
It was the only one built with red body and black trim. It was the first car to be fitted with a Ford XR3 1.6L engine. The drive to the rear wheels was through the old type Escort 1600 sport gearbox and Cortina 1600 back axle. The complete car weighs 600kg. The high power-to-mass ration provides for dramatic performance. There were 14 body changes from the GSM Dart. Mr. Levy was assisted by Verster de Wit who designed the original GSM Dart body. Hoffie le Roux who later became one of the front suspension experts with Lola Racing Team helped develop a new chassis jig and front suspension. Mr Levy experimented with a Ford V6 engine but there was not enough room under the bonnet and he turned to the new 71kw XR3 motor.
Vehicle previously owned by Johann Walters.
